As per reports, a massive explosion happened on 1st of July, 2020 at a boiler in stage two of the NLC (Neyveli Lignite Corporation) India limitedplant at Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu. Nearly 17 people have been injured and 6 were dead in the blast. Neyveli thermal inspector said that all have been admitted to NLCIL General hospital in Neyveli.
The explosion happened at the fifth unit of the thermal power station two (210MW x 7) as workers were resuming the operation on 1 july, 2020 Wednesday morning. It is suspected that over heating and high pressure might have led to the explosion. The company generates 3,940 MW electricity and the plant where the blast took place accounts for 1,470Mw. According to activist Nityanand Jayaraman, this is the second blast at the factory since the lockdown was imposed in March while the previous one took place on 7May, 2020 where eight workers had sustained burn injuries. Unlike the second, the first explosion was reported in the outlet unit of the boiler.
In a series of tweets Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed his grief on the death of the workers stating “Anguished to learn about the loss of lives due to blast at Neyveli power plant boiler in Tamil Nadu. Have spoken to Tamil Nadu CM and assured all possible help.” He also stated that CISF is already on the spot to assist relief work.
More information regarding this incident is yet awaited.
