2020 Beirut Explosions: Protests, Lebanese government bowed down after protest, resignation of entire Diab government including PM

Beirut- After strong demonstrations and protests over the Beirut blast in Lebanon, the government there finally bowed down. The entire government, including Prime Minister Hasan Diab, resigned. The Lebanese Prime Minister said that he was leaving the post in view of the blasts at the port of Beirut.

Earlier, amid the resignation of another cabinet minister over the blast, a judge of the country on Monday began questioning the heads of security agencies.

According to the official National News Agency, Judge Gassan El Khoury began questioning the chief of security Major General Tony Saliba. No detailed information has been given in this regard and other generals are also to be questioned. The agency reported in a report that Justice Minister Mari-Claude Najm submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister on Monday. Najm is the third cabinet minister to resign over the blast. A cabinet meeting is also proposed on Monday.

Let us know that 160 people died in the blast on August 4 and about six thousand people were injured. In addition, the country’s main port was destroyed and large parts of the capital were damaged. According to government officials, about 20 people have been detained in connection with the blast, including the head of the Lebanese Customs Department.

The 19th-century historic castle destroyed in the explosion: The 160-year-old palace in Beirut has faced two world wars, seen downfall the Osmania Empire, captured France and then witnessed the independence of Lebanon. After independence, then the bloody civil war of 1975–1990, its old glory was restored with a struggle of 20 years, but it was destroyed in the terrible explosion in Beirut.
