NEW DELHI: COVID-19 being the cynosure of all eyes due to the upsurge in deaths, the country’s premier hospital – the All India Institute of Medical Sciences – has turned it’s focus on silent hypoxia as one of the prime killers.
Hypoxia is a medical condition in which the body or a particular body part does not receive adequate oxygen at the tissue level.
“Patients are oblivious to their condition until it is too late, resulting in a sudden death. It is a condition which has been seen in a lot of Covid-19 patients,” said a doctor at AIIMS on condition of anonymity.
“They should not be allowed to move unattended. Anticoagulants (to prevent blood clotting) should be used in all at-risk patients who do not have any risk factors of bleeding,” according to an AIIMS advisory on better clinical management of Covid-19.
