A 25 minute experience !

Article SamacharLine |

It was 19 October, 2017, a day of biggest hindu festival ‘DEEPAWALI’.

I went to buy few ice-creams at 11 pm. It was the first time when I realized that it’s good if your home is far from the city.  As I entered the city there were tremendous sounds of fire crackers, people burning crackers at streets and on roofs with a feeling of joy at their faces. But somewhere my joy was dejected. Each and every alley was covered with dense, poisonous black-grey toxic fog. Roads couldn’t be seen beyond 40-50 meters. An unbreathable atmosphere was like a nightmare.

Street animals fled around the streets scared of fireworks and their brightening. Even some people were throwing fire works on animals. There were times when I felt uncomfortable in inhaling. Then I saw another drastic form. Roads were slew of garbage produced due to fireworks. Deepawali is a festival of joy & harmony when young meets elders, express their gratitude and worship god for affluence. Every house seems lucrative with beautiful decorations. People expressed their joy burning crackers albeit burning umpteen crackers, contributing in pollution besides Deepawali.

The new generation seems nonchalant towards awareness and frenetic towards creating more pollution.

People seem to blame government but what government can do if people are not aware instead of making plenty of campaigns, advertisements and great practices like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. World War is not necessary if man-made calamities would threat lives. Nearly after 25 minutes I reached my home and narrated whole scene to my family that how people are opening prison doors for themselves.
