National Green Tribunal has directed the State of Madhya Pradesh to file proper report on ULBs solid and liquid waste management

State of Madhya Pradesh, on 10.07.2025, filed a compliance report as required by the Solid Municipal Waste Management Rule, 2016. National Green Tribunal (NGT), after considering the same concluded that the report is not proper and complete as it was not signed and was not in the prescribed form, that is, of an affidavit.

Thus the National Green Tribunal has given 4 weeks of time to the State to file the report again in proper manner. Wherein, the state has to disclose the current status of solid and liquid waste in all the ULBs, that is, how it is managed, etc.  Furthermore, a proper format has been prescribed for the report, which will include the following components, namely, Name of ULB, Waste generation, Composition of waste, Waste collected and transported and its final destination, Waste Processing, etc.

Hence the state is required to provide the above mentioned details about the solid and liquid waste in ULBs within the time period granted. Thus, the Tribunal will hear this matter again on 15th September, 2025.

Thus, from the whole situation and considering the fact that the state has failed to comply with the proper legal procedure, it appears that the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) lacks adequate legal representation.
